This purveyor of the deep and jazzy sound of Chicago needs little introduction. Mark Grant has been a staple in the house scene for years; recently, his DJing schedule has elevated to the level of globetrotter and his production credits now include the ultimate in quality house, San Francisco’s Om Records. Raised in the birthplace of house music, Mark was influenced by legendary jocks like Frankie Knuckles and notes that even from an early age, he was drawn to house. “If I’ve ever loved anything, it has been house music,” he says. Mark DJed extensively throughout high school and college, naturally gravitating toward production in 1994. His portfolio includes tracks, EPs and compilations for labels like Cajual, Guidance Recordings and Deep Soul. His “Jazzy Kinda Sum’n” on Cyclo Records was licensed to several international mixes. In 2001, Om released Grant’s Sound Design V2, the compiled follow up to Marques Wyatt’s mix. For Deepfunk, Mark offers up another classic, jazzy house ensemble aptly titled ‘MG’s Groove,” featured on the 2002 release of Inner City Experience, Volume 2. Simultaneously, Grant tours the globe extensively playing the most acclaimed clubs the world over. In its embryonic stages is the formation of his latest project, Blackstone Recordings.
